Revit Name Automation for Consistent Naming Conventions
The Status Strip is located at the bottom of the Main Settings dialog. It displays your active license tier, the current settings file location, and the template name. It also provides the primary controls for saving and managing your configurations.
The License Badge indicates your currently active license tier (e.g., Lite, Pro, Pro+, or Autodesk Pro).
If a new version or an update for a newer Revit release is available, an Update button will appear next to the License Badge. Clicking this button opens a prompt asking if you'd like to update Rename Pro to the latest version.
The Name generation: 561.2ms readout displays the time it took to generate all of the new name previews based on your current rules.
The path display (e.g., C:\RenameProTemplate\RenameProSettings.json) shows the exact location of the currently active .json settings file on your computer.
Users on the Pro, Pro+, or Autodesk Pro tiers have the ability to maintain multiple distinct settings files, allowing different naming conventions for different projects or disciplines (e.g., one for Architecture, another for MEP). The Template text box displays the name of your current setup. To rename the active template, simply edit the text in this box.
The downward-pointing triangle (▼) opens a dropdown menu containing additional commands to manage your settings. Options include: Save As, Export, Load, Reset, and About.
The Save button becomes active whenever you make changes to your settings. Clicking it saves your current configuration to the active .json file. Note that if you save your changes and then press Cancel, the dialog will close, but your saved changes will still be retained.
Clicking Cancel discards any unsaved modifications you made since opening the dialog (or since your last save) and closes the window. Your settings will revert to the state they were in before the changes.
Once you have configured your naming rules and categories, you should save your settings so your naming conventions are preserved for your next session. Clicking Save writes the configuration to a .json file.
If you are using the Lite version, you are limited to a single default settings file. However, users on the Pro, Pro+, or Autodesk Pro tiers can utilize the dropdown menu to Save As, Export, and Load entirely different settings files as needed.
If you need to start over, you can reset your settings to a blank slate or to default templates. Click the Additional Commands (▼) dropdown and select Reset. This will present you with options to clear your settings or load default Imperial or Metric templates (available for English versions of Revit).
Remember, if you own a paid license tier, you can always use the Save As or Load functions to switch to an alternative settings file without overwriting your current one.
